Brotherhood Breakfast Series: City of Ali and A Conversation with Mayor Greg Fischer of Louisville
Sunday, May 15, 2022 • 14 Iyar 5782
9:00 AM - 11:30 AMRoth Family Community RoomIn one of Temple Brotherhood's most unique breakfasts ever, we will gather at the Temple for a screening of the acclaimed film "City of Ali" and then participate in a conversation with Mayor Greg Fischer of Louisville.
Muhammad Ali - one of the most significant and celebrated figures of our time - was a citizen of the world, but always called Louisville his home. "City of Ali" is a feature film that tells how his death in June 2016 brought the people of Louisville together for one unforgettable week. On the day of Ali’s funeral, more than 100,000 people lined the streets to celebrate his life, and an estimated one billion people worldwide watched Ali’s memorial at the KFC YUM! Center as stories of the Louisville Lip’s wit, generosity, and commitment to justice were told by President Bill Clinton, Billy Crystal and Bryant Gumbel, among others.
"City of Ali" includes candid interviews with friends and relatives of The Champ and moving accounts of Louisville's unprecedented week-long celebration of one man’s life, answering this question:
“How do you say good-bye to The Greatest?”
Following the film, we will be joined via Zoom by Mayor Greg Fischer of Louisville, who was deeply involved in the events of that week and whose reflections are an important part of this landmark motion picture. The Mayor was a friend of Ali and looks forward to talking with Temple Israel about Ali's enduring legacy to Louisville and the world.
Breakfast will be $10 per person. Please register below for "City of Ali".
We look forward to seeing you on May 15th for a truly extraordinary morning.
Breakfast at 9:00am · Film 9:30-10:50am · Mayor Fischer at 11:00am - 11:30am
