RAC-NY Less is More Learning Session
Tuesday, February 23, 2021 • 11 Adar 5781
8:00 PM - 9:00 PMZoomThis past summer many of us gained a new awareness of systematic racism in our country. New York State is no exception. In New York State, parole officers can and do re-incarcerate people for missing an appointment because of work or child care needs, staying out beyond a curfew, or testing positive for alcohol after their release from prison. New York State re-incarcerates more people for minor transgressions like these – known as “technical” or “supervision” violations - than any state in our country except Illinois. Black people are incarcerated for these minor offenses almost 5 times the rate of white people. Join members of Beth El of Northern Westchester and Temple Israel of Northern Westchester to learn more about how you can be involved in changing this unjust parole system by advocating for the Less is More legislation.
