High Holy Days 2023
We are looking forward to providing and sharing a meaningful
High Holy Day experience for our Community.
Temple Israel members are invited to bring their family and friends to services this year. For the safety and security of our community, ALL in-person attendees must be registered.

- All services taking place in the Sanctuary will be live-streamed to provide the opportunity to participate remotely. Technological improvements have greatly enhanced the virtual experience.
- If you have not yet completed your Membership Commitment for 2023-24, visit this page on the website.
- If you have guests/relatives that are non-members, you can have them register here OR you can add their names to your registration / pass request.

This service is most appropriate for adults, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Rosh Hashanah Story Service

Join us as, in lieu of a sermon, Rabbi Jaech shares an engaging and insightful story that touches upon themes related to the High Holy Days. This year, the service will include music from our Temple Band, Sh'ma Na Na. You will also enjoy upbeat and participatory music led by Rabbi/Cantor Sklar. Torah reading by Cherie Marcus. This service is appropriate for everyone. A children’s machzor, prayer book, will be used.
Tot Program at Senasqua Park

Families with young children are invited to join Rabbi Pein & Rabbi/Cantor Sklar at Senasqua Park for a spirited and musical exploration of High Holy Day traditions and customs. Bring your shofar and help in sounding the shofar blast!

Congregant, Laura Copel invites our Temple Community to partake in the ritual of Tashlich at Senasqua Park. We will symbolically cast our (environmentally-friendly) sins into the beautiful Hudson River as we sing joyful songs and celebrate together. Bring a chair and/or a blanket.

Kol Nidre Story Service
6:00 PM
This service is appropriate for everyone. This early opportunity to hear the important Kol Nidre prayer is perfect for anyone hoping to attend services but still make it home before bedtime! Rabbi Pein will tell a story relating to themes of Yom Kippur. Rabbi/Cantor Sklar will lead participatory music.
The Kol Nidre prayer itself will be enhanced by the beautiful sounds of the cello.

Yom Kippur Morning Service

Rabbi/Cantor Sklar, Choir Director Eddie Pleasant, Composer in Residence Dina Pruzhansky, and Hallel B'Shir (our choir) will provide glorious and festive music.

Paul Tesshin Silverman will introduce us to using Zen practice as a way to create a deeper connection with the spiritual work of Yom Kippur.
Adult Program Led by Rabbi Pein "Ancient Stories / Eternal Wisdom"
2:30 - 3:15 PM
Rabbi Pein will lead a discussion of some less-known rabbinic stories and the wisdom they provide for our lives today.
Ritual Committee Program
3:30 - 4:15 PM
Featuring members of the congregation speaking about those whose lives have shaped their own.
Yizkor (Memorial Service) followed by N'eilah (Concluding Service)
4:30 PM
Led by Rabbi Jaech, we remember our loved ones in this beautiful service that features music by Rabbi/Cantor Dan Sklar and by our choir, Hallel B’Shir. Yizkor will be followed by N'eilah, the concluding service for Yom Kippur. At the end of the service and for havdalah, children will be invited to sound their shofars.

The program promotes a sense of peace and unity within our community and beyond through acts of loving kindness and social justice. Our goal is to bring joy into the lives of the elderly by creating floral arrangements which are distributed to local nursing homes and to build community among volunteers through this process. -
