Mrs. Copel and Mrs. Smith

October 17 Hebrew update

The students played an alef-bet game, reviewed V'ahavta and got a brief introduction to different facets of Hebrew in Harmony, an online learning center where Hebrew prayers are taught with music and games. You will be receiving information soon about how to sign your child up for digital access to this incredible resource.

Looking forward to meeting you at our Shabbat service Nov 2, Friday night.

Shalom Kitah Vav parents,-

In Judaica class, we learned more about the early Israelites and how they adapted Judaism in the land of Israel and in the Diaspora. We also discussed that despite the many adaptions made, both in Israel and in exile, our ancestors kept their same values and beliefs in Judaism which continues with us today.

As in introduction to this unit we:

  • Thought of and shared what 2 Jewish items we would take on a long journey lasting several years that would help us maintain our Jewish identities and live as Jews and why we would choose them:
  • Defined key terms and historical figures related to this time period such as diaspora, exile, King Saul, King David, King Solomon, King Nebuchadnezzar, King Cyrus, Holy temple, Philistines, Assyria, Babylonian Kingdom.
  • Divided into small groups and each group researched and presented facts regarding either King Saul, King David or King Solomon

We also had a fire drill prior to pizza and concluded the evening with Tefilah led by Rabbi Pein, Mrs Copel and Mr Chazdon where our Vavniks led Avot v I'mahot and Gevurot.

Save the date for our Vav class service November 2nd at 7PM, with a pot luck dinner before. Submit your dish via Perfect Potluck.
Shavua Tov,

Susan
