Mrs. Copel and Mrs. Smith

Shalom mishpachot!

Last night we started our Hebrew in Harmony packets for the Havdalah prayer. Four blessings which separate Shabbat from the rest of the week. We eagerly anticipate your students' participation on Saturday, April 5 when they lead the Havdalah ritual and receive their siddur (prayer book) from which they will study to become b'nai mitzvah.

Havdalah is about separation between holy and ordinary so we talked about things that fall into each category and started practicing the Hebrew words.

One class did anti-bullying scenarios to relate to the Purim story. The other class played the Havdalah Quiz-it game on Hebrew in Harmony to get more facts about it and re-familiarize themselves with H-i-H. Whether or not your child did the Quiz-it, you can do this at home as a family to learn about Havdalah.

The homework is to start making their recordings of the four Havdalah prayers for me to give them feedback as we did with the Kiddush prayer. Many students claimed they were too busy to do this. Remind them they all have a few weeks to do it, but I advise starting soon. Since the first blessing is the short form of the Kiddush, they can do the first two blessings the first week, the third blessing the next week, and the fourth the following week. The fourth blessing is the longest chunk and they can break it into smaller ones.

I've attached the Hebrew-in-Harmony recording instructions for Havdalah. PLEASE support your child in getting this started as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have technical access issues and I will do my best to help.

Thank you,

Laura Copel
