Thanks to the American Conference of Cantors (ACC) and the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), I have been blessed with many opportunities to discuss and troubleshoot the perils and perks of creating meaningful worship online. The greatest lesson to come out of these meetings is that no two congregations are the same and clergy need to discover and adjust to the needs of our individual communities.
As we prepare for a High Holy Day season that will be anything but normal, I’d love to hear your thoughts regarding the most essential elements of your personal High Holy Day experience. As my teacher, Rabbi Larry Hoffman, explained to a group of clergy on a webinar last week, “We think in terms of what we ought to do – this is a year we get to determine the ought.”
I invite you to work in partnership with Rabbi Jaech and me as we explore and create the best modalities to cultivate a meaningful High Holy Day experience for our beloved TINW community. Please reach out to me via phone or e-mail (cantor@tinw.org) with your thoughts, suggestions, and favorite prayers and melodies. I can’t promise that we’ll be able to include them all, but I’m excited to learn about what makes you come back for High Holy Day services year after year.
