UPCOMING events calendar

  • ​​​​​​Brotherhood Monthly Meeting, Wednesday, October 15 @ 7:30 PM.  In-person at Temple Israel.  All men of TINW are encouraged and welcome to come.  A light supper will be provided gratis, while we coordinate logistics for our busy Fall Season of scheduled activities.  All ideas for new activities are welcome along with volunteers for existing scheduled events.
  • Brotherhood Sukkah Take Down, Sunday, October 19 @ 10:00 AM.  Please join the Brotherhood for a bagel and a shmear as we take down and store the Sukkah for next year.  It won't take long especially with many hands contributing.
  • Brotherhood Defensive Driving, Tuesday, October 28 @ 6:30 PM & Tuesday, November 4 @ 6:30 PM.  Learn how to be a safer driver and get 10% off the collision portion of your insurance bill.  Please register in advance here.
  • Brotherhood Breakfast Series, Sunday, November 2 @ 10:00 AM. Brotherhood kicks off the new season of Breakfast Lectures on Sunday, November 2nd @ 10:00 AM.  Brotherhood (with our host Len Simon) will present trailblazer TV Executive Tom Rogers.  Over his 40-year career he was President of NBC Cable, won an Emmy, is in the Broadcast Hall of Fame and is responsible for creating MSNBC & CNBC.  He'll also be able to address the current media landscape.  This will be a not-to-be missed event.  Please register here to guarantee a seat (and a sumptuous breakfast)!

  • Sunday, November 2, 2025 @ 10:00 AM, Presenting trailblazer Tom Rogers, former Television Executive who during his 40-year career was President of NBC Cable, an Emmy Award Winner and a member of the Broadcast Hall of Fame.  As President of NBC Cable he created MSNBC and CNBC.  This will be a fascinating speaker who will also address where the media is today.  Be sure to register here to guarantee a seat.

SUNDAY BREAKFAST LECTURE SERIES 2024-25

Len Simon oversees our Breakfast Lecture Series.  If you haven’t been to one yet, you don’t know what bagel & lox & eggs & salads & more, you are missing. Not only is the food great but our guest speakers bring a unique social perspective on a variety of topics...and cooking with the guys in the kitchen is a blast.

MIDNIGHT RUNS ORGANIZED BY TEMPLE ISRAEL BROTHERHOOD

Temple Israel Brotherhood typically organizes two to three Midnight Runs per year, each on a Saturday night, from the late Fall through the early Spring. Our Midnight Runs bring clothing and provisions to the homeless in Manhattan at night. Students from the Temple Israel Center for Jewish Learning often participate in Midnight Runs as part of Bar / Bat Mitzvah Service Projects, or for their academic school service hours.

Donate warm men's clothing and meatloaves the week before to provide for the Midnight Run.

Learn more about Midnight Run by contacting Andrew Bieber, our Midnight Run Coordinator, and by reading What is Midnight Run, written by Steve Samuels.  Please read Sought After Items for more information about the types of clothing and other items we need to collect in preparation for a Midnight Run.  If you are interested in participating, whether you go on the Run or not, we need help at the Temple at 2 PM on the day of the Run to sort clothing and make sandwiches. You'll enjoy the process.

Jewish Renewal In Poland

Jewish Renewal in Poland was the subject of the recent Brotherhood Breakfast. The Brotherhood's relationship with the Jewish Renewal started over 15 years ago when we had a direct channel to a reform congregation in Warsaw. Since then, an umbrella organization in California has been fostering Jewish renewal in several Polish cities. The movement is attracting Polish citizens who knew their families were once Jewish and are now re-establishing their Jewish roots...some through Jewish conversion, some having Jewish weddings, some celebrating Shabbat and participating in their local temple events.

Many of brotherhood's breakfast attendees wanted to know how they could help...the speaker (Rabbi Haim Beliak) said they certainly need our economic support. To this end, if you would like to support this effort, please send your check made out to TINW-Brotherhood and mark in the note on the check "Jewish Renewal". The Brotherhood will batch all the contributions and forward them on to the Jewish Renewal in Poland.
