Building Committee

Background

The Building Committee maintains and improves our sacred home. Inside and outside, we strive to honor our Temple through a vigilant program of maintenance, while looking toward our future needs and aspirations.

In recent years, Temple Israel of Northern Westchester (TINW) has repaired or replaced a number of important building systems, including the boiler, oil tank, portions of the roof, and associated equipment. The Temple has also completed a program of expense-related improvements including landscaping and tree care, exterior improvements, and plumbing work.

The Master Plan

In 2025, through the Temple's Building Committee, TINW worked with KG+D Architects to complete a Master Plan for the existing building.

The Master Plan documents, including renderings of proposed building improvements, lay out a proposed series of phased improvements to the Temple's facility. Phasing is based on costs and priorities outlined by clergy, staff, and user groups represented by the Brotherhood, Sisterhood and Ritual Committees, CJL, musical leadership, and the Building Committee. Master Plan documents were shared with TINW's Board and the congregation in the Fall of 2025.

Phase I

Design for Phase I of the Master Plan improvements, including major security upgrades, lobby, and bathroom improvements, is currently under way. Design documents will be presented to the congregation this spring in preparation for construction over the summer of 2026.
