The gates are closed, the month of Tishrei is over, and we have officially made it through another High Holy Day season. This week we celebrated Rosh Chodesh Heshvan, the beginning of the Hebrew month of Heshvan. Heshvan is affectionately nicknamed “Mar Heshvan,” which means “Sad Heshvan” in Hebrew. Heshvan is considered to be a sad month because it is the only month on the Hebrew calendar without a single Jewish holiday. Our next holiday, Chanukah, doesn’t come until the month of Kislev. Heshvan is often considered the favorite month of Jewish clergy because it offers a well-deserved respite from the many holidays we celebrate in Tishrei!

Here at TINW, our upcoming month of Heshvan is not so sad. Rather, it is full of many exciting programs and events. Here are some highlights:

  • Learn about Shabbat in Tot CJL on October 28.
  • Our first Glee (Youth Choir) and Selah (Teen Choir) rehearsal will take place November 4.
  • Commemorate the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht at a special Shabbat service on November 16.

Indeed, there is something for everything coming up at TINW. Join us!
