Summary |
This Yom Rishone at CJL, we gathered as always in the sanctuary with Rabbi Pein and the Cantor.
We have so many beautiful tunes to our prayers and when I asked the children afterwards which were their favorites they had many choices.
The parsha this week was Noah, and both rabbi Pein and Rabbi Jaech, later in the session, emphasized the lessons from Noah, like teamwork.
We also visited the sanctuary with Rabbi Jaech, and she showed us our three beautiful Torahs in the Aron Hakodesh, (holy ark), and some fascinating history about the Torah covered in silver.
We learned the letter, Shin- which looks like a shovel, to add to Tav, that has a long toe. We can now spell the word "Tush " in Hebrew. Remember Hebrew is from right to left!
In class, we learned the story of Creation, and we made collages about all the beauty in nature that was given to us each day in this first story of the Torah.
We attended Hebrew through movement which is always lively and fun. We learned the words: Ayin and eynaim - eye and eyes, ozen and oznayim- ear and ears, pay- mouth and af- nose. Ariela always makes it fun!!
It was lovely having every student attend this week. We look forward to many weeks of full house learning. Stay tune information about our Fall trip to the food pantry.

MayMay 11 , 2024Brotherhood-Sisterhood Movie Night: The Apartment
Shabbat, May 11th 7:00pm to 9:30pm
"The Apartment". From 1960, the story of a young New York insurance company employee, trying to get ahead by “loaning” his apartment to other executives. His life becomes complicated with unintended consequences when he falls in love with the office-building elevator operator. Directed by the legendary Billy Wilder it stars Jack Lemmon & Shirley McClaine in one of their best roles. The movie is a beautiful and funny love story but also a pointed commentary on office politics, morality and how certain men treat women, circa 1960. The Broadway play “Promises, Promises” is the musical version of this wonderful film. -
