Summary |
This week at Center for Jewish Learning we started at Sanctuary. We are using our prayer books and the children are doing well respectfully holding the siddurim and following along in the transliteration. Rabbi Pein explained to us that when Jews pray three times a day, it is attributed to our patriarchs:morning prayer was introduced by Abraham, midday prayer by Isaac, and evening prayer, Jacob started. Rabbi Jaech taught us the story of Jacob and Esau later in the day and the children found it very fascinating.
It was a "sibling rivalry" themed day, as in the classroom, we talked about Cain and Abel and a little about why people fight. Ask your children to tell you these Bible stories , and why the two sets of brothers interacted the way they did . We created Channukah cards with the theme of thankfulness for the Jewish soldiers
for protecting us and hoping that one day we can settle things in a different way.
Of course we went to Hebrew Through Movement where we learned the words "NER" and "NEROT" , candle and candles as we get ready to place them in the Chanukiot..
Your children brought home their punim books where they can get to know more about their classmates and how to get in touch!
Was anyone thinking of volunteering for class parent?

MayMay 11 , 2024Brotherhood-Sisterhood Movie Night: The Apartment
Shabbat, May 11th 7:00pm to 9:30pm
"The Apartment". From 1960, the story of a young New York insurance company employee, trying to get ahead by “loaning” his apartment to other executives. His life becomes complicated with unintended consequences when he falls in love with the office-building elevator operator. Directed by the legendary Billy Wilder it stars Jack Lemmon & Shirley McClaine in one of their best roles. The movie is a beautiful and funny love story but also a pointed commentary on office politics, morality and how certain men treat women, circa 1960. The Broadway play “Promises, Promises” is the musical version of this wonderful film. -
