IMPORTANT INFORMATION
THE FOOD PANTRY TRIP WHERE STUDENTS NEED TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS HAS BEEN MOVED TO JANUARY 27, 2019.
We will be collecting 3 cans and two boxes of something else nonperishable from each child . You can bring that with you the day of the trip. I will let you know the date and the address in our next update.
For our last class of the secular year, we were really busy!
We started in sanctuary singing prayers with the actual Sidur used in services at Temple Israel. The children turned to pages accurately and are beginning to follow along with the words. Later in the session, a student asked me, "What are those blue books called again?" They are Sidurim, and one book is called a Sidur.
We learned the letter Mem which looks a bit like an arrow with one small line removed, or a dreidel, or a mountain with a chimney, or a lawn mower,(you can see there is a lot of student input as we figure out how to remember our new letters!)Ask the children to practice their letters over vacation! I am betting they can write most or all of our eight known letters!
We read the story of Noah's ark- which always provokes lots of discussion. We learned the word BRIT, which is an agreement we made with God. Noah's BRIT is symbolized by a rainbow. In this story we also learned that a dove with an olive branch is the symbol of peace or SHALOM. We then moved on to the famous play dough project. We each made an animal, a partner for someone else's animal and a Hebrew letter to be placed on our class ark.
We then joined the Maccabiah. Kitta Bet was invited to two stations- Hebrew Through movement which now has a link right below this one so you can review our many known words over the break, and yoga with Morah Judy where we shaped ourselves into Hebrew letters.
We had a lot of fun. We always miss the people who were not present and hope they feel better or had a nice journey.
Happy and healthy vacation,
Morah Devorah
