Shalom Koolam,
This Yom Rishone, we learned about what a "PARSHA HASHAVUAH" means. The weekly portion or part of the Bible is the part of the Torah that is read as we work our way through the 5 books of Moses in one lunar year.
Since we have just begun to read the second book, Shm'ot, in the synagogue, the children received packets this week with a couple of very interesting BIG questions to think about. Their homework is to ask you to think about and answer the questions in this packet as well.
The children also brought home a flier asking for a contribution for our baking project on Mitzvah Day which is January 20. We are asking that you send in the contribution on the 13. On January 20 we will start school at 9:30.
This is not to be confused with the Class trip we are making on January 27 to the Pleasantville Food Pantry for which we will be bringing cans of food, and non perishables. We also arrive at Pleasantville Food pantry at 9:30. Helena will have coffee in the pantry for parents. Siblings are welcome.
We read the story of the Tower of Babel and discussed all the languages in the world, which led to our review of our Hebrew letters using a jenga tower!
We know Shin, Bet, Vet, Lamed, Dalet, Gimel, Resh, Tav, Mem and Mem Sofeet. see if your children can show you how to write their letters and what sounds they make.
Rabbi Jaech met with us to talk about what makes a good leader. We discussed why God would pick a shepherd to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. The answer is patience.
We went to Hebrew through movement with Ariela and learned four colors:
Tzehov-yellow
Kahol-blue
Lavan- white
Adom- red
We applied these to
Toosh- marker
geer-chalk and
Eeparone- pencil.
As usual the children had lots of fun and learned Hebrew painlessly.
Shavuah Tov,(Have a good week!)

MayMay 11 , 2024Brotherhood-Sisterhood Movie Night: The Apartment
Shabbat, May 11th 7:00pm to 9:30pm
"The Apartment". From 1960, the story of a young New York insurance company employee, trying to get ahead by “loaning” his apartment to other executives. His life becomes complicated with unintended consequences when he falls in love with the office-building elevator operator. Directed by the legendary Billy Wilder it stars Jack Lemmon & Shirley McClaine in one of their best roles. The movie is a beautiful and funny love story but also a pointed commentary on office politics, morality and how certain men treat women, circa 1960. The Broadway play “Promises, Promises” is the musical version of this wonderful film. -
