Todah Rabbah to all the mishpahot,(families) who came to our Kitta Bet trip at the Food Pantry in Pleasantville, this past Sunday morning. We missed the others and we will tell you all about it when we create our Thank you cards next Sunday. This week we really put into practice the Jewish value of Tzedakah and helping the poor.
We started with discussing two ways the Rabbi Avranel suggests we build empathy for the poor, by realizing they are our brothers and sisters through the Matriarchs and Patriarchs, and by realizing how much better our community works when all have food and shelter.
We then had our tour with Gail, who explained to us how many poor people have jobs where they work hard and still need to come to the pantry to have enough to eat. She asked for us to think of ways that we could lend a helping hand in the school and in the community. To that end, we are going to do a follow up project with Helena from the Food Pantry. Please look for items in your home such as bedding, cutlery, pots and pans or be creative, and cleaning supplies. We will have a box in our room so that the children can give a special package to people in our community that need items to make a comfortable safe home. We also recommitted to bringing Tzedakah to class each week.
We ended with a story called the Rusty Penny that is really about how once you give you feel true enjoyment from the mitzvah of helping. I think we all felt the "ruach",( the spirit), of happiness from helping on Sunday.
Todah rabbah kulam.
Watch emails next week for a song to review for our Friday night March 1 service.
Remember to sign up for pot luck.
