Mrs. Seidner

This was a special Yom Rishone at Temple Israel.

At Sanctuary, we not only sang Oseh Shalom, we illustrated it! Shalom means peace, and the feeling of completion. We brought all our picture of our hopeful prayer, that God can provide peace to all of Israel and the world from On High, up to the Bema and stood in a circle . It created a peaceful sanctuary for the children!

Since the older students were at trips, we got to have the wonderful 5th grade teacher, Morah Smith with us for the day. It was the perfect day to learn about Hachnasat Orchim, welcoming guests. We learned that Abraham was so welcoming that he had a tent with all four corners open for all to enter. We watched a Shaboom video where due to noisy TV and video games, kids did not realize there were guests at the door!

Shaboom has a lot of good videos to teach the children about mitzvot if you want to take a look. We made Welcome Mats which say Bruchim Habayim - Blessed are those who enter. You can see them on our Kitta Bet bulletin board.

Ms. Smith brought her Hebrew letter flashcards so we could play a game to review our letters. We also know some words that begin with these letters. Ask your children about it!

The Cantor sang a song about Mishpaha that we know from our lesson about the family tree. In our subject line each week I greet Kitta Bet Mishpahot- second grade families. See which Hebrew words for family members your children remember!

We had a long Hebrew through movement with great review and Pesach,(Passover) word matzah and hametz introduced. Our children are saying full sentences in Hebrew thanks to Morah Ariela!

We ended the session with two stories about Elijah the Prophet of Passover seder fame..

Please be on the look out for our sign up for Model seder!

Shavuah Tov,

Morah Devorah
