Summary |
Shalom, Kitah Dalet Parents,
In our 8th Ivrit session our Daletniks
- reviewed the two letters making the [k] sound, Kaf (כּ) and Kuf (ק), as well as the somewhat complicated vowel Sh’va (ְ). Sh’va has a short, neutral sound when with the first letter of a word; it makes no sound in the middle or at the end of a word. I spoke of this last week as the “Ghost Vowel,” in connection with a popular upcoming secular celebration!
- Looked at their scored assessments, taken 2 weeks ago. I will provide written summaries of their performance and list the letters and vowels they did not know.
- Began study of new letters GI-mel (ג), A-yin (ע), Tet (ט), ZAH-yin (ז), SAH-meh (ס), and Sin (שׂ). The new vowel is Ho-LAM Ha-SEIR ( ֺ ); it is another form of the [oh] vowel.
- received a new assignment involving the new letters and vowel.
I took some time to frame the assessment feedback as a way to get to know oneself better, but not a reason to feel bad, if one isn’t happy with one’s score. We all have our particular areas of strength and challenge.
I was pleased to see that most students are showing interest and making progress. If your child is having challenges keeping up but likes being online you might want to try this online Hebrew reading tool: http://russelneiss.com/hebrew/ .
Best wishes till next time.
L’shalom,
Lane Chazdon
