Dear Kitah Dalet families,
*Rabbi Pein and Cantor Lauren led us in a special tefillah. Cantor Lauren taught us a new way to approach Nisism B'Chol Yom/ Prayers for Daily Miracles as we added hand gestures and joyful voices. Rabbi Pein then shared a true story about Yosele the holy miser who lived and died in Poland in the 17th century. His neighbors judged him to be unkind and uncaring as they never saw him sharing his great wealth with those in need. Ask your daletnik what the townspeople learned about Yosele and the Thursday envelopes and what it teaches us about tzedakah After the story, Rabbi Pein and the madrichim introduced the students to many wonderful tzedakah organizations.
*In class, we had a chance to vote on the organization we would like to support with our weekly tzedakah collections. We will find out which group received the most votes when we return after the Thanksgiving break and learn a little more about their efforts at tikkun olam/ healing the world.
*Hakarat HaTov is the Jewish value of 'recognizing the good' or being thankful for the things in our lives. We read a story about young David being chased by King Saul who wanted to kill him! Perhaps your child can tell you how David was saved and how it helped him find gratitude for even the smallest creatures.
*The students then created beautiful cards showing their appreciation for all of creation. "Blessed are you Adonai who created the beach, for swimming, playing and being with family." Please see your child's card in the attached photo.
*We will have a special craft to create when we return to class 12/2! Each student will assemble their own hanukkiah to bring home. They can be used for the 8 nights of light as we celebrate Hanukkah 5779!
**PLEASE ADD TO YOUR CALENDAR: Sunday December 9:The Kitah Dalet Family Hanukkah Program. We ask that one parent come for each student to spend the morning with us in class.(9:00-10:00) Then the whole family is invited to join us for Consecration/ recognizing students who are new to CJL studies this year and a fun Hanukkah play! Looking forward to celebrating together!
L'Shalom,
Betsy Deckert
