Dear Kitah Dalet families,
*I hope everyone who attended Mitzvah Morning enjoyed it and found it meaningful!
*The class had a discussion about the 3rd through 8th commandments. Is it murder if someone kills an animal for food or kills an animal that is an endangered species? Is it stealing if you take medicine from a store for a poor person or if you find a dollar in the street and cannot return it? Why is it important to honor our parents and how can we best do that? Many students wanted to share their thoughts today and there were great conversations!
*Mr. Chazdon introduced the students to his song, I Saw Rabbi Hillel. We will share the song with the residents of BethEl Nursing Home and Rehab on March 24 when the class visits the residents.
*Rabbi Jaech shared a favorite story, Bone Button Borscht. The story shows that people are stronger when they work together, demonstrates the power of community and reminds us that we should treat everyone with respect. The book highlights the mitzvah ma'achil re'evim/ feeding the hungry and the value of hachnasat orchim/ welcoming guests. Perhaps your child can retell the story of how the town was able to come together!
l'shalom,
Morah Betsy Deckert
Shalom Kitah Dalet Parents,
In our 16th Ivrit session our Daletniks reviewed the context and meaning of Mi Khamokha. Learned where the prayer occurs in the service order and why it follows V’Ahavta.
Learned about its origin in the Torah in the “Song of the Sea”.
Reviewed vocabulary and practiced decoding and comprehending the prayer at the learning stations.
Received the next assignment of practicing both evening and morning versions of Mi Khamokha and posing the question, why are there two different forms? The assignment is attached to this message, in case it didn’t make it home or your child was absent.
I was pleased to hear several students starting to read more fluently. If your child seems to need to review letter letters and vowel sounds, here is a useful on-line decoding tool to get them going: https://clicktime.symantec.com/3DAYRTaq8wgh8vizah3TvFo7Vc?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.behrmanhouse.com%2Fclick-and-read-free.
L’shalom,
Lane Chazdon
