Dear Families,
Today we learned about the holiday of Tu B'Shevat, the "Birthday of the Trees." Please ask your child to tell you why trees are important enough to celebrate. We read about trees, we expressed the purpose of trees on our "Chagim Wheel," and we became trees for a short exercise.
We expanded on the holiday to understand that in today's world it's super-important to take care of our environment, expressed in Hebrew as "Bal Tashchit" (Do not destroy). In the Torah it says that we are the stewards of our earth, and our class talked about protecting it so that it will be here in good condition for coming generations. Please ask your child the ways he/she can help keep the earth healthy. Maybe he/she can explain some examples from the Shaboom video we watched in class.
Next time you come upstairs, please notice our hallway bulletin board. Our students illustrated the mitzvot of Bal Tashchit and of Derech Eretz (Treat others the way you want to be treated).
Remember that next Sunday, 1/20, is a special Mitzvah Day at the CJL for our students and their families. The day will begin at 9:30 in the sanctuary with T'filah. Our class will make toiletries bags for homeless people first session, and then have Hebrew Through Movement the 2nd session. At 11:00, the temple will provide a light lunch. Thank you to those who have signed up to bring in toiletries. If you haven't signed up, and you plan to attend, just go to this website and do so: https://perfectpotluck.com/QLRE7032
Have a great week!
