Mrs. Kisling

Dear parents,

Last week we learned about the upcoming holiday of Tu B’ishvat :

On the 15th day of Shevat (a Hebrew month), we celebrate this Jewish holiday. It’s the celebration of the New Year for Trees. During this time is when the trees start blooming in Israel and begin the fruit-bearing cycle. We learned the song the almond tree is blooming ((השקדיה פורחת. As a follow up activity, we mad an art project where we created the almonds tree. In Israel, there are tree planting events and activities. In celebration of Tu Bishvat, we eat fruit such as dates, figs, pomegranates, grapes, and olives. The Jewish blessing over the fruit is: “Baruch Atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech ha’olam borei pri ha-etz”. (Blessed are you, lord our God, king of the universe, who created the fruit of the tree.)

In Hebrew we learned some new vocabulary connected with the holiday of B’ishvat and reviewed the Hebrew letters we learned so far. Our Hebrew homework will be on line here are the instructions:
