Kitah Zayin Weekly Update
*The title of tonight's "Moving Traditions Bnei Mitzvah" session was 'Growing Up.'
The goal was to reflect on childhood experiences as part of recognizing the milestone of the bnai mitzvah . We also had a chance to think about the freedoms and responsibilities that come with their teen years.
We started the class with a team building and communication game called 'Crossing Over The Hot Chocolate River.' The activity was intended to highlight the similarity between the game and the bnai mitzvah journey. Everyone was happy to unpack the activity with a delicious cup of hot cocoa. Other activities talked about where the 7th graders are coming from and where they see themselves going at this important juncture in their lives. We talked about the freedoms they will gain as teens and the responsibilities they will begin to take on.
*We ended the evening with a clergy session. Rabbi Jaech heard that many students had questions about her own Jewish journey and proceeded to tell the students about why and how she converted to Judaism and eventually became the Rabbi of Temple Israel. As the 7th graders are preparing to become bnai mitzvah themselves, they were very interested to hear about Rabbi's journey and you could hear a pin drop in that room!
