Summary |
*Kitah Zayin started the day with a gallery walk review of our B'nai Mitzvah unit. Students shared their thoughts about this age and stage in their life.
*We watched the film Havana Curveball. "Thirteen-year-old Mica takes to heart his Rabbi's dictate to help “heal the world,” and launches a grand plan to send baseballs to Cuba—a country with a mysterious pull. He knows only that Cubans have few resources, love baseball, and gave his Jewish grandpa refuge during the Holocaust. His filmmaker parents know a curveball is coming…" Here is an introductory clip if you are interested. http://www.havanacurveball.info
After the film, the students broke into groups to discuss how the mitzvah project impacted Mica, how he handled disappointments and stumbling blocks along the way, and the value he found on his journey.
*All students should hand in their Mitzvah Contracts ASAP if they have not already done so and they can begin logging the hours on our class Har Mitzvah/ Mitzvah Mountain.
*Many students handed in their grandparent interviews. If your child is still completing this assignment, I have asked them to bring it to class next week. The students have begun posting the lessons gleaned by reading between the lines of their interviews.
We would like to send warm wishes for a Hanukkah filled with light to our kitah zayin families,
Hag Orim Sameakh/ Happy Festival of Lights,
Betsy Deckert and Stacy Shapiro
