Dear Kitah Zayin families,
In Morah Betsy’s class, we finished our unit on shtetl life with a fun activity! Students built an edible shtetl with a wide range of resources, and they attempted to create an old world, Eastern European village. When we return to class January 2, we will move into our immigration unit, beginning with the end of the 19th century. Please be sure to review with your 7th grader the countries their ancestors are from as many are not sure about this information.
In Morah Stacy’s class, we discussed, “why do we pray?” The students worked in havruta (study groups) to discuss the questions, why do you pray, what do you expect from prayer, who are you praying to and what do you pray about/for? We then talked about prayers as we used our “pray dough” to visually create what prayer means. We will continue to look at prayer, how to make it meaningful and how to bring Torah into today in creative ways.
All students finished the night with a mini Maccabiah Games/ TINW CJL edition! The actual Maccabiah Games occur every 4 years in Israel and are highly competitive tournaments for Jewish athletes. Our Games included Gaga, Israeli dance, Torah Yoga and Jewpardy! Everyone had so much fun and by popular demand I am sure we will reprise the Games again soon!
L'Shalom,
Betsy Deckert and Stacy Shapiro
