Dear parents of the wonderful Path to confirmation class:
Shana tova!!! It was such a pleasure to welcome our returning students yesterday evening. They are a lovely group and I hope they enjoy themselves this year while learning a lot about all sorts of subjects.
As you all know from the letter we sent during the summer, this year we will be using a different format for learning in this class. Instead of me teaching all the information to the students directly, they will be doing their own, self-driven research in groups, on what interests them them most within the confines of their "Prism" project. I will be there to help, of course, in case they get stuck.
Last night we talked a bit about this format and even watched a video about it. (Prism Project) Next week we will receive a "challenge question" which will drive their research. They will also be using interactive notebooks to record their research, rate the videos they watch, record notes on interviews they may conduct, and summarize and record their thoughts on articles and Jewish texts they have read.
I understand that many people are involved in school sports or plays and may miss some sessions. Please let me know when your child will be absent, and we will adjust the research groups accordingly.
As you probably already know, this Sunday evening we will be having a Simchat Torah celebration beginning at 6:15pm. All the 8th and 9th graders are invited to come stand by their Torah portions when we unroll the Torah scroll. We hope to see you all there!
Kol tuv (all the best), Moadim Lesimcha (Happy Hol Hamoed Sukkot),
