Dear parents of the Rosh Hodesh teen girls:
We had fun tonight talking about what we think of as "perfect" or "ideal appearance" in our society and why we think this way. Among other activities, we watched and discussed a video about young American women from different ethnic backgrounds and how they were surprised how much they disliked the result of their own images being digitally altered to reflect cultural norms.
We ate Chinese food, hula hooped, practiced sitting in a "support circle," learned a new call & response song, chatted with Rabbi Jaech, and lit our gratitude candles.
I apologize for forgetting to hand out fundraiser packets to some of the girls who arrived late. (Amalie and Hanna have them; Evie, Zoe, Haley, and Jordan don't.) Attached is the cover letter if you want to start the fundraiser without the packet. If you happen to be at the temple before the 27th, the packets are in the closet in the TIPSY room on the 2nd shelf, and you may retrieve yours. (I borrowed Evie's to scan for this letter, but I will bring it back on Monday and put it in the closet.)
Next week, February 20, we have no class. Enjoy your break, and I hope to see you all on the 27th, when we will hopefully talk a bit about Esther and Vashti, learn another song, discuss Eshet Chayil, and write our own version of "A woman of valor." I also hope to begin a conversation about social media.
Stay warm and safe, and as always, thank you for letting me work with your daughters,
Judy
