Brotherhood Breakfast Lecture Series Featuring Oren J. Teicher
Sunday, March 7, 2021 • 23 Adar 5781
10:00 AM - 11:00 AMZoomOren J. Teicher is the former Chief Executive Officer of the American Booksellers Association, the national trade association for independent booksellers. He was appointed as ABA’s CEO in 2009 and has worked on behalf of independent bookstores for more than thirty years. Teicher has received numerous awards and recognition for his work including Publishers Weekly’s Person of the Year Award in 2013 and the National Book Foundation’s 2019 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. In support of the bookselling community, Oren has emphasized the importance of the shop local movement, advocated for fair and sustainable tax laws, and worked to put the struggles and successes of independent bookstores into the public consciousness through increased media coverage and broader cultural awareness. He retired from ABA at the end of 2019 but is now part-owner of Denver's Tattered Cover, the nation’s largest Black-owned indie bookstore. A Westchester native who lives in White Plains, Oren previously worked for the March of Dimes and as a senior staffer in the U.S. Congress. Oren looks forward to meeting with the congregants of TINW to discuss how technology and internet sales have impacted indie bookstores, what COVID has meant to the book industry and the future of bookstores in America. To discuss all of these topics and more with Oren on March 7th, please register below.
